Opening a new location is a security scramble — new access credentials, vendor access windows, contractor badge logistics, and lobby coverage all land at once.
Five things security-conscious facilities teams do before day one: (1) Provision temporary contractor credentials tied to specific time windows — not indefinite access. (2) Establish a visitor management process before the first day of operations, not after. (3) Configure zone-based access so not everyone with building access can reach every floor on day one. (4) Brief your SOC (or engage Kastle's) on the property's layout, high-risk areas, and expected traffic patterns. (5) Set up automated credential expiration so contractor and vendor badges don't persist beyond their scope of work.
The window between lease signing and first day of operations is also the window when security is most often an afterthought — and most often exploited. Getting ahead of access logistics before furniture arrives is the single highest-leverage action a facilities team can take.
